The Beth Chatto Garden was established in 1960 and has been transformed from its beginnings as an overgrown piece of land, covered in  brambles and boggy ditches into Nationally renowned inspirational series of gardens filled with plants adapted for the different conditions of each one. These include a gravel garden, water garden and woodland garden.  The result is stunning and The Beth Chatto Garden has become a mecca for garden lovers across the country, looking for new ideas and unusual plants.

The on site nursery stocks over 2000 plants, all sold according to their particular growing conditions.

There is also a tea room serving light lunches and homemade cakes and where craft fairs, workshops, gardening lectures and other events are held.

Not far from Colchester, the gardens are in Elmstead Market on the A133 Colchester – Clacton Road.

The site covers roughly seven acres and is open all year round, including bank holidays exept for two weeks over Christmas and New Year.

For opening times and prices for admission, please visit the Beth Chatto Gardens website.
