Christmas in Suffolk

The festive season has become rather frenetic for many people these days: lunches with colleagues, dinners with friends, get-togethers with the family, Christmas shopping and a host of other commitments that can leave us feeling exhausted when the Big Day finally arrives.

There’s something quite appealing about the idea of ‘getting away from it all’ at this time of year; finding somewhere relaxing and cosy to spend time with people you care about, enjoying good food, a warm fire and reflecting on the year that is passing. Suffolk is a peaceful place with lovely countryside, miles and miles of footpaths, a beautiful coastline and fits the bill perfectly, for a restful Christmas break.

Days can be spent curled up in front of the fire with a good book and a glass of wine close at hand, interspersed with a brisk walk through pretty countryside, or a stroll around a fine medieval village before finding somewhere for lunch or afternoon tea.

Constable Country in the Dedham Vale of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a delight to explore at any time of year, but especially so in the off-peak season. Walks leaflets can be dowloading from the Dedham Vale project website and further information about Suffolk is available from tourist information centres across the county.
