Hunting for Treasures in Clare

If you are fond of hunting for antiques, then do pay a visit to Clare, a picturesque wool town in the Stour Valley. The Clare Antiques and Interiors warehouse is a converted mill, which sits on the edge of the town’s country park and is an Aladdin’s cave of antiques and collectables spread over four floors.

Not only is there the huge warehouse full to the brim with treasures, but a regular antiques fair also takes place in the nearby town hall, with over 30 stall holders selling a mix of pottery, ceramics, glass, vintage clothing, collectables, lighting, jewellery and more, covering a wide range of periods and styles.

The 2016 dates for the antiques fair are: 20/21 February | 27/28 March | 1/2 May | 18/19 June | 3/4 September | 22/23 October. See details on the Clare Antiques Fair website.

And if all that treasure hunting makes you hungry, there is also the Café Under The Stage at the event, offering a ‘proper mug of tea’, English breakfast, jacket potatoes and homemade cake – all at reasonable prices.

There is plenty to see in this vibrant village. Clare Country Park is great for walking along the River Stour, feeding the ducks and clambering 70ft up to the 13th century ruins of Clare Castle; there is a walk along the disused railway line and you can visit the grounds of Clare Priory which are open to the public. Ancient House Museum, with its wonderful pargetting is open to the public from 24th March – 2nd October (please check their website for specific opening times and admission).
