Lavenham Brook Wines & Produce

We are lucky to have several vineyards and fruit juice producers in Suffolk, making top notch drinks and winning prestigous awards as a result. The evocatively named Lavenham Brook is one such producer and they have a small, but fine selection of wines from the Bacchus and Pinot Noir grapes that are grown in their vineyard, just a few miles from the medieval village of Lavenham.

Their wines from the 2009 and 2010 vintages won gold medals in the UK Vineyard Association ‘Wine of the Year’ awards.

As well as a vineyard, they also have an orchard stocked with heritage varieties of English apples that are quite rare and they press juices with names like Worcester Pearmain English Apple juice (made with a variety of apple dating from 1874) and Tydeman’s Late Orange Apple juice (made from a variety of apple that was bred in 1930 by crossing Cox’s Orange Pippin with Laxton Superb).

The 150 acre Brook Farm is also home to two breeds of the famous ‘Suffolk Trinity’; a prize winning herd of pedigree Red Poll cattle and a flock of fine Suffolk sheep. The animals are reared with care and fed on traditional grass-based diets. The meat is then hung in whole sides for the optimum time (beef-min 21 days/lamb 10 days) to develop its flavour and ensure exceptional tenderness.

Lavenham Brook produce is available to purchase from Brook Farm on Saturdays from 9am to 1pm, and at most other times.  You are advised to ring beforehand if you are making a special trip, just to make sure there is someone there to meet you.

There are other stockists of Lavenham Brook produce, including The Suffolk Foodhall and various farm shops. For a comprehensive list, please see the stockists’ page on the Lavenham Brook
