Things are looking blooming gorgeous on the Suffolk Flower Farm in Boxted, near Bury St Edmunds.

Started in 2012, they grow high quality, seasonal blooms, in order to offer an alternative to the imported flowers which are so widely available.

The picking season is from March to the end of October and flowers are sold at farmers’ markets as well as delivering beautifully gift-wrapped bouquets to addresses in Newmarket, Sudbury, Haverhill, Cambridge¬† and Bury St. Edmunds.

The fruits of their autumnal labour – lots of digging and planting – is paying off as their collection of spring flowers is flourishing: Tulips, Ranunculus, Hyacinth, Narcissi, Anemones and Alliums are the first flowers of spring and will continue until the end of May. Tulips are a bit of a speciality with new varieties this year including Montreaux, Jan Reus, Blue Parrot and Uncle Tom among many others.

Summer flowers taking over from June onwards include Peonies, Roses, Sweet peas, Delphiniums, Verconicastrum, Ammi, Cosmos, Zinna and Agapanthus,  with Crocosmia, Rudbeckia, Dahlias and Hydrangea stealing the show in the autumn.
