My favourite Suffolk beach. It is so laid back with no sign of commercialisation at all. Park just down by the quay where you can pay a man to row you across the river to the Southwold side, to the tiny fishermen’s huts where you can buy fresh fish and chips or browse for cafes, shops and a super pier.

Kids love it here because of the crabbing, there are always about 20 children hanging out a line with a bundle of bacon at the end trying to gently lift the crabs up out of the water into their buckets, a bucket of 50 crabs is not unusual before the children want to let them go and run off through the grassy dunes to the sea. The beach is shingle but with lots of sandy areas.

Behind Walberswick is the stunning Dunwich Heath which is a great day out hiking through seemingly endless heathland stretching onto the beach.  All in all, a lovely day out especially with children.
