Walberswick Beach | Walberswick

Walberswick is my favourite sandy Suffolk beach, perfect for kids because of the sand, the dunes and the fun-filled activity of crabbing.

You never saw such a height of enjoyment in so many children as when you go over one of the little creek bridges and yet another piece of string is pulled up out of the water with 5 little crabs hanging onto the bacon at the end  for dear life, yells of  ‘I’ve got 40 now’, mums cajoling children to put them back before getting into the car and children scampering around with slopping buckets sandy feet, eagerly pushing forward to see the latest catch with looks of amazement on their faces are all part of the fun.

Walberswick itself is very cute and small, with a couple of very good pubs, one being almost on the beach. The road to Walberswick is a dead end so it is a pretty safe place for children and you can get a rowing boat ferry across the river to the fisherman’s quay and sheds where smoked fish, fried fish and fresh fish can be bought.

The beach extends miles down to Dunwich as it turns to shingle and is a really good walk for the dog. If you are feeling fit there are amazing walks around the moorland hills overlooking the marshland and sea starting at Walberswick.

All in all Walberswick is a great destination for a lovely day at the seaside for families or walks for those who enjoy moorland and sea views

And again no tacky touristy feel at all.
